6 Tips for Writing a Resume that gets Results
1) Start off with a strong summary
What used to be an objective statement that merely conveyed the purpose of your resume has been replaced by the summary. Recruiters and hiring managers now anticipate a summary, which gives them an overview of your qualifications. Here, you will briefly describe yourself in order to get the employer's attention. Imagine it as your elevator pitch in writing. Include the salient points of your education, training, experience, and background that are relevant to the position you are applying for or pursuing.
2) Highlight your experience and skills
Your employment experience should be stated on your resume, and in most cases, your positions should be placed in reverse chronological order. A series of bullet points outlining your responsibilities will be attached to your previous employment. If all you do is mention your job responsibilities and the things you achieved while working there, you're missing a huge opportunity.
Tech skills are important in our high-tech era. If your technical expertise could be useful in your future work, be sure to mention it. This includes any software and apps you are familiar with. Referring to job descriptions, mention any technical expertise and credentials you have that are necessary or preferable for the role.Verbal communication, Written communication, Problem-solving, Data analysis, Programming, Social media marketing, Foreign languages, Design, etc.
3) Display your creativity
Be sure to draw attention to anything special about you that can help you stand out from the competitors. Mention any related blog posts or published articles you have written. You might also wish to emphasize your multilingualism if the organization you're applying for has worldwide operations or a clientele that is diverse in terms of ethnicity. If you have a skills list on your resume, at the very least put it there and in your summary.
4) Soft skills
Despite being more difficult to quantify than hard skills, soft skills are crucial for success in many occupations. Highlight your soft skills when you can. Find ways to promote your soft skills throughout your CV rather than just listing them. For example: Inspiring others, Wit, Persistence, Self-awareness, Self-confidence, Emotional intelligence, Adaptability, etc.
5) Relevant Keyword usage
By attracting the attention of the application tracking system (ATS) software, which is employed by the majority of firms to support their applicant tracking system, keywords can provide your resume a competitive edge. Human readers scan your resume and take note of keywords as they do so. If necessary, use the relevant keywords from the job description in your CV.
6) Proofread
One of the main reasons your resume can end up at the bottom of the trash bin is a grammatical error. There are far more obvious mistakes in resumes than you may imagine. Before mailing your resume, proofread it several times and have a second person look it over.
Although creating a CV requires effort, the result is worthwhile because a strong resume will improve your chances of getting an interview when you submit it.
